Patients can book appointments for contraception, subdermal implant, and coil clinics via the call centre. Emergency contraception (oral and intrauterine devices) is also available on a walk-in basis.

All individuals under 18 years of age may attend our sexual health clinic during opening hours without an appointment for contraception services, including long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) and emergency contraception.

A dedicated service for under 18s is available; Monday to Friday, 1–4pm.

Important: The online appointment booking system will be reinstated once the transition to the new EPR system is completed in early 2026. Further updates will follow.

Advice for Pharmacy Referrers

  • Inform patients they can access emergency contraception and ongoing contraceptive supplies through the clinic.
  • Emphasise the sexual health clinic’s confidential, specialist sexual and reproductive health services.
  • If pharmacy services cannot meet the patient’s needs (e.g., complex cases, contraindications), refer them promptly to the nearest local sexual health service.

Signposting to abortion services in NWL:

Patients can choose their preferred service/location and contact the service directly to book their appointment. They do not need a GP referral to contact any of the services to book an appointment. HIV testing and prevention pathways:

All sexual health services are able to provide STI and HIV testing and STI prevention treatment including:

  • Vaccinations for Hepatitis A, B, HPV, Mpox and Bexsero vaccine for gonorrhoea prevention in at risk eligible groups
  • HIV PrEP in at risk eligible groups: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a tablet that people who are at high risk of coming into contact with HIV can take in advance (before sex) to prevent HIV. PrEP is now available on the NHS free for those eligible
  • HIV PEP – also available in Emergency Departments if out of sexual health clinic opening hours. Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is medication taken as soon as possible (no later than 72 hour) and AFTER coming into contact with HIV to reduce the chance of HIV infection by at least 80%
  • DoxyPEP prevention of syphilis and chlamydia infections in at risk eligible groups
